Morgan’s Point – A Tiny Texas City Of Approximately 350 Residents and Roseate Spoonbills
“In 1835 Colonel James Morgan was appointed agent for a company called the New Washington Association. He immediately purchased for the company an enormous quantity of land in Harrisburg, Liberty & the point at the mouth of the San Jacinto River & Galveston Bay. Here he laid out the town of New Washington (later to become Morgan’s Point). The company brought a number of Scottish highlanders & free blacks from New York, including Emily D. West (the legendary Yellow Rose of Texas) to the colony.” (Source: City of Morgan’s Point)
Roseate Spoonbill – I LOVE these guys!!! “The oldest recorded Roseate Spoonbill was at least 15 years, 10 months old when it was recaptured and rereleased during a scientific study in Florida.” (Source: AllAboutBirds.Org)
How can you not just love this quirky looking, brightly colored bird?!
My trip to Morgan’s Point was fun and everyone I met there was so kind and helpful! If you’re a bird watcher, there are PLENTY of these guys here as there is a large marsh area.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks Sergeant Richardson and friend!
Elizabeth and Max (Max likes the Roseate Spoonbill the best…as long as it stays AWAY from him!!!)
