San Jacinto Day Festival – Part III – Danza Azteca Taxayollotl and Chikawa Aztec Dance…to name a few

We are back at it again…STILL posting about our day at the San Jacinto Day Festival! Wow…lots to cover!!!

Several Danza Azteca groups performed, but I met the two above, Eheca and Javier prior to their show for a few photos. Sadly, their names were the only ones I wrote down before it became too hectic. I have to say, the extreme passion shown by Mr. Herrera for the dance was beautifully touching!!

About 5 minutes before the Danza Azteca groups performed, it started to get crowded – this was about 10 minutes before!

Aren’t the colors magnificent!

Everyone seemed mesmerized by the dancers in their colorful attire

It was touching to watch the ceremony of it all!

The intricate head dressings were stunning too!

Everyone seemed to really enjoy the show!!!!

Mr. Herrera just delivered such an incredibly passionate performance the crowd noise seemed to hush watching him and the other dancers.

Without a doubt, respect was shown to/by the dancers indigenous traditions – I’m sure their families are all quite proud as they should be!

Just thought I’d be me and throw some randomness in here – I saw this while riding down the road en route to the Festival – thought it was appropriate for the day to snap a quick shot.

More cool stuff to follow so “stay tuned” … we’ll see more about The Buffalo Soldiers, Hawks, a Golden Eagle, Screech Owl and more!!

Thanks for stopping by!

San Jacinto Day Festival-Part II

As promised, here is Part II of the San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Reenactment event yours truly attended on Saturday, May 22, 2017.  I stepped back in time to April 21, 1836 for the Battle of San Jacinto…General Sam Houston led the Texian Army to fight and defeat General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna’s Mexican Army.  The fight lasted just 18 minutes.  Good thing for ME I am not THAT old, as I couldn’t stand the thought of no air conditioning! Ok, on to the fun stuff….photos!

Loved seeing this as I walked by and tried to imagine “back in the day” the folks that would show up to see the traveling medicine shows! (sad I missed this show).

Fred Rusk and The Zydeco Hi-Steppers provided some great entertainment for the crowds!

Did I mention camels??? This young man sure had fun riding one!

Kuddos to the organizers for this event! Very well done! There were so many things to do and see!  Everyone got to learn about what life was like during 1836 in fun, interactive ways.
IMG_6798-1.JPG
I’m telling you – Texas Pride was EVERYWHERE! I was happy to take a break under one of the tents and cool off and sip on my old fashion sarsaparilla drink and eat a corn dog.

Of course there were plenty of goodies to buy too!
