Tania Botelho, Visual Artist in Houston, Texas

While checking out the Second Saturday at Sawyer Yards, I had the honor of meeting Ms. Tania Botelho a Visual Artist.  Ms. Botelho is a married, (sorry guys) and has one dog. When I asked Tania her advice for aspiring artist she answered, Believe in your work, do not feel down with critics, do not feel vain with praise and be obstinate as art will demand a lot of work from you!!”

“Art is my weapon and I want to use it as a way to speak for the minorities that can’t speak or don’t know how to do it for themselves.”

Denise Giordano, Artist – Gio Studio in Houston, Texas

In the words of Stella Adler Life beats down and crushes the soul, and art reminds you that you have one.  (Source:  www.giostudioart.com)

“I attempt to construct intense personal moments masterfully created through mixed media artworks and sculptures. Wanting the viewer to imagine their own interpretation without being hindered where past and present fuse. Time and memory always play a key role. By applying abstraction, I want to amplify the astonishment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil metaphors that leave traces and balances on the edge of recognition and separation.

Beach Time at Galveston, Texas with Max

What does a rational person do once she learns Tropical Storm Cindy wasn’t going to hit Houston badly? Yep, drive to the beach on Saturday! It was looking unpredictable if it would rain or not in Galveston, Texas so I figured I’d get storm photo shots or enjoy the beach as either way it was going to rain by my house so why not….

Stephen F. Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas (short drive from Houston)

Today we are off to see Stephen F. Austin State Park – less than an 30-45 minute drive from Houston and a great place to camp!

While I didn’t go camping on this outting, I included some photos from when my daughter and I and our pups went camping in 2015. We had a blast camping there and did some geocaching there too.  Let me tell ya…finding a micro-geocache is hard (full credit to my daughter finding that one!)!!! The trails there are well-kept and plenty of birds can be spotted here too…especially my red cardinals 🙂

To see it though, you’ll need to call Newman’s Bakery at 979-865-9804 to book your tour. The day of the tour, you’ll meet up at Newman’s Bakery around 10:15 am.  Why not go a little early and taste one of Newman’s Bakery donuts, danishes, Quiche, pigs in a blanket, cinnamon roles or choose from whatever grabs you from the display case and if you’re like me – a large coffee! (Remember to mention Houston Photo Journey at the Bakery and you’ll get 2 FREE Pastries with your purchase!)

Chuck Norris even filmed a Russian beer (Hoegaarden) at Newman’s Castle (See at end of post)

Who WOULDN’T want to have their very own castle?!! It’s beautiful!! Mr. Newman began building the castle in 1998.  Today it’s a Bellville landmark.  The moat completely surrounds Newman’s Castle and it’s believed that this is the only Castle with a moat fully encasing a castle in the USA.  It’s truly a sight to behold!!!
